Men's swimming and diving wins first dual meet of 2018-19 over Oswego State

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-1-) men's swimming and diving team won its first dual meet of the 2018-19 season with a 130-108 victory over SUNY Oswego (0-1) Wednesday evening at Judson Pool.

In relay action, the Tigers began the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods), Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), Eric Moss (Irvington, NY/Irvington) and Ben Metzger (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) took home first place and 11 points in a time of 1:39.59. The team of Tyler Schwarz (Stanley, NY/Marcus Whitman), Brendan Kapp (Springfield, VA/Trinity School), Ethan Davis (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) and Tom Regan (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline) were third (1:43.86).

Moss led a trio of Tigers to take the top three places in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Moss won the event in a time of 10:23.86, while Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) was second (10:28.74) and Jimmy Antonelli placed third (10:44.21). Moss picked up a second individual win with a first place in the 100-yard butterfly (54.19).

Mark Truskinovsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) took home first in the 200-yard freestyle, winning in a time of 1:50.89. Andres Orbe (North Bergen, NJ/Saint Peter's) won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.81, and the 100-yard backstroke (55.24), while Kapp took home first place in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:06.24.

Wang won the 500-yard freestyle, coming home in a time of 5:02.04. Antonelli was third in race, finishing in a time of 5:12.88.

In diving action, Jon Bauer (Fairview, PA/McDowell) placed second in the 3-meter competition, finishing with a score of 186.30. Chase Van Duyne (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was third with a score of 170.20. In the 1-meter competition, Van Duyne was second with a score of 201.65, and Bauer was third with a score of 201.40.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 20 when the Tigers host Alfred University at 12 p.m. at Judson Pool as part of RIT's Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.
