OSWEGO, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team (0-2) dropped a close meet, falling 122-119 on the road at Oswego State (1-0) Wednesday evening.
The Tigers dominated both diving events.
Ben Hamilton (Addison, NY/Addison) took the 1-meter event by under a point over teammate
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), 252.30 to 251.65, while Dieroff took the 3-meter with a score of 254.65, while Hamilton was third.
Nicholas Genovese (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) won a pair of individual events, taking the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.30 seconds, while annexing the 100-yard backstroke by just over a second in 55 seconds.
Justin Morris (Holliston, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) and
Eric Moss (Irvington, NY/Irvington) led a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Morris won by 25 one-hundredths of a second in 54.93 seconds.
Carl Schlehr (Maineville, OH/Kings) (1:02.82) and
John Stelmack (Toccoa, GA/Stephens County) (1:03.01) were second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:39.49) and third in the 500-free (5:13.57), while
Braden Feasley (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) was third in both the 100-free (50.96 seconds) and 200-free (1:53.34). Zach Ward was third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.55), while
Tyler Allen (Newark, NY/Newark) placed third in the 50-free (23.32 seconds).
RIT had a chance to win the meet if they won the final event of the evening, the 200-yard freestyle relay, but came up just under a minute short, as the team of Morris, Allen, Moss and Feasley was second in 1:30.15. Genovese, Schlehr, Morris and
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) was second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:41.53.
The Tigers are right back in action on Saturday, with a road dual meet at Alfred University that gets underway at 1 p.m.
