WEST POINT, NY – The RIT men's tennis team (2-3, 1-1 Liberty League) won its first Liberty League contest of the 2015-16 season with a victory over Bard (1-7, 0-6 Liberty League) 7-2 at the U.S. Military Academy on Sunday afternoon.
RIT won two of the first three doubles matches to grab the early lead.
Chandler Daub (Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe) and
Ben Lynaugh (Fairport, NY/Fairport) teamed up at first doubles, topping Bard's Ted Laport and Keillor Mose 8-1. After Bard took the match in second singles, the Tigers came back, as
Jason Alexander (Austin, TX/Bowie) and
Ian Dansereau (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) picked up their first doubles victory of the season, beating Camille Wejnert-Depue and Issac Lertola 8-2.
RIT took that momentum through singles play, winning five of six matches. Daub won his second match of the day, beating Laport in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Lynaugh and Alexander also won two matches on the day. Lynaugh took care of Mose 6-2, 6-2, while Alexander picked up his first singles victory of the season in a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Nicholas George.
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) clinched the match for RIT, breezing through the second set of a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Philip Poznansky.
The Tigers will return to non-conference play on Wednesday with a matchup against local rival Rochester on the road at 4 p.m.
