ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's tennis team (5-8) finished the home portion of the schedule with a dominant 8-1 victory over St. John Fisher (7-8) at the Gordon Field House on Thursday evening. Seniors
Jared Raphael (Batavia, NY/Batavia),
Jason Alexander (Austin, TX/Bowie), and
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) played their last home match for the Tigers, and each picked up two match wins for the Tigers.
In doubles play, Alexander and Raphael teamed up for the 8-4 victory in third doubles over John Miller and Jonathon Harper. Chou, along with
Jared Ingoglia (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex Regional), triumphed over Adam Moran and Jacob Zarzycki 8-6 in the second slot.
In singles play, Alexander defeated Zarzycki in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5 at third singles. Chou and Raphael each played shorter matches due to time constraints. Chou won in the fourth slot, defeating Christian Barnes 8-2. Raphael defeated Moran 8-0 to close the match.
Ben Lynaugh (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Ian Dansereau (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) both played three set thrillers, but came up with victories. After dominating in the first set against Quinn Magiera in the second slot, Lynaugh ran into trouble, dropping the second, before dominating in the third for a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 victory. Dansereau dropped a close first set at fifth singles, before taking the second set, and eventually the super tiebreak to win, 5-7, 7-6 (9-0), (10-5).
Playing at first singles for the first time this season, Ingoglia breezed by Kevin Kulawiec in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
The Tigers will end the regular season, with a matchup on the road against No. 20 Skidmore on Saturday at 1 p.m.
