ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's tennis team (4-8, 2-4 Liberty League) dropped a competitive match to St. Lawrence (9-8, 5-2 Liberty League), 6-3 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the RIT Tennis Courts.
In doubles play,
Jared Ingoglia (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex Regional) and
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) picked up the lone victory for the Tigers in the second slot. In a back-and-forth affair against St. Lawrence's Rhonny Rosario and Spencer Whitmire, winning 9-7. At first doubles,
Chandler Daub (Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe) and
Ben Lynaugh (Fairport, NY/Fairport) came up just short, falling 9-7 to Robert Schmitz and Elliot Solandt.
In singles play, Daub got on the board for the Tigers, defeating Dean Sponholz at the top slot. After winning in the first set, Daub dropped the second, before dominating in the third, for a team-leading seventh singles victory.
Jason Alexander (Austin, TX/Bowie) picked up his fourth dual victory of the season, defeating Kevin Frommer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
The Saints took four out of six singles matches in straight sets, to pick up the victory.
RIT will close out the home portion of its schedule with a non-conference matchup against St. John Fisher on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Tigers will honor three seniors, Chou, Alexander, and
Jared Raphael (Batavia, NY/Batavia), prior to the match.
