ROCHESTER, NY - Despite a valiant effort, the RIT men's tennis team (1-2) dropped a non-league dual match to Division II Roberts Wesleyan College (7-6) by a score of 6-3 at the Gordon Field House on Tuesday afternoon.
In doubles action, the team of
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) and
Jared Ingoglia (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex Regional) secured RIT's lone point, an 8-4 win over Jose Maria Carrillo and Jose Lopez Tapia at the second position. The first doubles team of
Chandler Daub (Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe) and
Ben Lynaugh (Fairport, NY/Fairport) put up a strong fight before falling to Charles Farres and Robert Beer, 8-6.
In singles action, Ingoglia was also victorious, with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Beer.
Patrick Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) earned his second win of the season at sixth singles, as opponent Gui Plentz de Liz had to retire early due to injury. At first singles, Daub took Farress to three sets. After dropping the opening set, 6-4, Daub took the second set, 7-5, before Farress won the decisive set, 6-1. Lynaugh just missed extending Carrillo to a third set at third singles, dropping the tiebreaker, 7-5, to lose the set, 7-6.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 2, when they head to Hamilton College for a non-league dual match that begins at 2 p.m.
