ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's tennis team (0-1, 0-1 Liberty League) opened up dual play in the Liberty League, falling to Vassar (4-4, 2-0 Liberty League), 9-0 at the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club on Sunday evening.
The Tigers started off with two close battles in doubles play. The teams of
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) and
Jared Ingoglia (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex Regional), as well as
Chandler Daub (Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe) and
Ben Lynaugh (Fairport, NY/Fairport), fought hard, but fell by 8-6 scores in first and second doubles. Vassar got the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory at third doubles, getting the match victory over the team of
Jason Alexander (Austin, TX/Bowie) and
Jared Raphael (Batavia, NY/Batavia).
Moving on to singles play, Ingoglia battled in the first set of his match at second singles against Vassar's Daniel Cooper, but fell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. In fourth singles, after dropping the first set to Evan Udine, Lynaugh fought to a tiebreak in the second set before falling, 6-3, 7-6. In the final match of the evening,
Patrick Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) took the first set from Nick Lee, before dropping the second. In the tie-breaking third set, Lee rallied, keeping the shutout alive with a 5-7, 6-4, (10-4) victory.
The Tigers will next take on Elmira in a home non-conference matchup on Tuesday, March 8, at 4 p.m. at the Gordon Field House.
