Fast start lifts RIT baseball to 10-3 win over St. John Fisher; Tigers now 4-0 this season

HOUGHTON, NY – The RIT baseball team (4-0) scored four runs in each of the first two innings, rolling to a 10-3 win over St. John Fisher (4-8) on the campus of Houghton College on Monday afternoon. The Tigers earned their fourth straight win to start the season.

"It was a fun game," said RIT head coach Rob Grow." We have been playing really well the first four games, offensively and defensively. We have been batting well and taking advantage of each of our opportunities."

RIT came out swinging, scoring the first three runs off of a triple with the bases loaded from CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta). Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) drove in the final run of the inning with a base hit to bring in Bolorin. RIT started their rally with two outs and nobody on base before the next seven guys reached.

The following inning, RIT exploded for four more runs, aided by a pair of St. John Fisher errors. Bolorin and Mike Myers (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) had run-scoring singles.

St. John Fisher would cut the RIT led to 8-2 after Frank Carnevale singled in a pair of runs. RIT would add on in the sixth inning, as Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) hit his first home run of the season. Myers would single home Gorman in the ninth inning after the latter tripled for the third time in four games.

Bolorin drove in a career-high four runs, while Gorman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and RBI. Sammon scored three times, while Myers was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Zach Zabel (Clarence, NY/Clarence) reached base three times.

Ethan Humbert (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) pitched the first five innings, allowing just two hits and two runs for the win, his first of the season. Rory Little (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) came in the for final four innings, giving up four hits and just one run to earn his first collegiate save.

St. John Fisher leads the all-time series between the two schools, 38-29. The Cardinals had won 12 straight games against RIT dating back to 2010 before today.

RIT is back in action on Sunday, March 22 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Colby College in Winter Haven, Fla., as the Tigers begin their Spring trip.
