MENDON, NY - The RIT men's tennis team (2-1) won its first dual match of the Spring season, defeating Daemen College (4-2), 6-2 at the Mendon Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Jared Ingoglia (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex Regional) was RIT's lone winner at singles and doubles to lead the way. At third singles, he defeated Gregory Lowe, 6-2 and 6-3 and at first doubles, partnered with
Kevin Layer (Clarence, NY/Clarence) for a 8-5 win over Mark Veitengruber and John LeMar.
RIT led 2-1 after the doubles matches, as
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) and
Frank McGinn III (Wappingers Falls, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) picked up a big 9-7 win over Lowe and Ethan Wincowski.
The Tigers pulled away in the singles, winning four of the five matches.
Amos Baptiste (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win over Joey Gentile, while
Jason Alexander (Austin, TX/Bowie) defeated LeMar in three sets, losing the first, 6-3, before winning the final two, 6-2 and 6-3.
Marc Lachance (Fairport, NY/Fairport) would earn a 6-2, 6-2 win over Adam Kerr at fifth singles.
RIT is back in action on Sunday, March 1, with a home match against Skidmore.
