ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT (1-0) wrestling team opened the dual match portion of the season on Saturday with a 23-15 win over SUNY Oswego (0-1) on the floor of Clark Gymnasium. The TIgers took home wins in six bouts, including a pair of pinfall victories.

The Lakers got on the board first when Jacob Yankloski defeated Andrew Flanagan (Holley, NY/Holley), 7-3 in the opening bout of the match. Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) answered back for RIT with a win over James Ronca with a pinfall at 3:57. Israel Segarra defeated Cole Murphy (West Genesee, NY/Westhill) at 141 lbs., 8-5.

RIT rattled off three straight wins at 149, 157, and 165 lbs to take control of the match. Dempsey King (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) defeated Eric Harley (Oswego) at 149 lbs., 6-1. Won Kim (Millbrae, CA/Mills) defeated Steven Culbert with a 5-1 decision at 157, and John Donohue (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) defeated Mark Millisci 4-0 at 165 lbs.

Oswego's Troy Seymour broke the RIT winning streak with a win at 174 lbs, defeating Joe Cutugno (Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City), 5-3. McKenzie Callahan (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis) came back for RIT, defeating Tim Scalisi with a 14-0 major decision at 184. Daniel Smith defeated Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) with a pinfall at 3:36 to win at 197 lbs. Sam Weinger (Blooming Grove, NY/Washingtonville) secured the win for the Tigers with a 13-1 major decision over Daniel Smith at 285 lbs.

RIT is back in action next Sunday, Nov. 22 at the New York State Championships, hosted by Cornell University.
