ROCHESTER, NY– The RIT softball team (4-26, 2-10 Liberty League) couldn't overcome cross-town rival Rochester's (20-10, 10-2 Liberty League) high powered offense in a doubleheader, falling 14-0 after five innings in game one and 7-2 in game two on a cloudy and cold Saturday afternoon from Tiger Stadium. The doubleheader start time was delayed three hours due to inclement weather. In between the pair of games, RIT honored the five members of the Class of 2014.

The careers of Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ), Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill), Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ), Chelsea Showmaker and Brittani Scharlau (Alexander, NY/Alexander) were highlighted and celebrated in between games of the doubleheader.

McManus highlighted the Tigers offensive effort, as she drove in both runs on a home run over the right field fence in the fourth inning of game two. Griffin went 2-for-4 on the day, as did Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton).

For Rochester, Lauren Muni went 4-for-5 on the day with five RBI's, while Nina Korn hit the lone Yellowjackets homer in game two, and had five RBI's of her own. Tayler Fravel went 5-for-7 for Rochester driving in three runs and scoring four runs.

On the mound for RIT in game one was Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), who took the loss, while Brittany Grage racked up 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits over five innings pitched in the win for Rochester. Sierra Valentine (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) started game two for RIT and pitched all seven innings, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits and struck out two. Opposing her for the Yellowjackets was Eleni Wechsier, who allowed two runs, on five hits and struck out two over the seven innings.

Despite the game time being pushed back several hours due to the field conditions, Rochester's bats were anything but rusty as the Yellowjackets came out swinging in the first inning of game one. After hanging four runs on RIT in the first inning they went onto score three or more runs in three innings after that to jump out to a 14-0 lead.

In game two, the Yellowjackets got off to a hot start once again, getting on the board in the first inning off a Weschler single that would score Fravel from second. In the bottom of the fourth, Rochester held a 4-0 lead over RIT and Weschler had a no-hitter going until McManus launched a two run homer to cut the lead to 4-2. That would be as close as the Tigers would get though as Rochester would add three more runs in the later innings to take the game 7-2.

RIT will have a brief, two days off before returning to Tiger Stadium on Tuesday, to take on Brockport for a doubleheader set for a 3 p.m. start. All of the Tigers remaining games are against non-conference foes, as RIT wraped up the Liberty League portion of the schedule with a 2-10 record.
