Box Score 2 ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT softball team (4-23, 2-7 Liberty League) was swept in a doubleheader against St. Lawrence (12-18, 3-9 Liberty League) on a windy Friday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers fell in game one 4-2, before being downed 8-0 in five innings by the Saints in game two. RIT is eliminated from Liberty League postseason play. The Tigers held a fundraiser to "Strike Out Cancer" during the doubleheader and wore pink stirrups and warmup gear.
Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) drove in both of RIT's only runs on the day with one swing, sending a two run homer over the left field fence in the fourth inning of game one.
Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) had a solid day at the plate going 2-for-5 with a single and a double.
For St. Lawrence, Leslie Stratton had herself a terrific day going 4-for-8 with six RBI's, while teammate Hannah Sears drove in two RBI's of her own, going 2-5.
On the mound in game one for RIT was
Sierra Valentine (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), who took the loss after allowing three runs over seven innings pitched, while striking out four batters. Her counterpart Kyle Plimpton was stellar for St. Lawrence, striking out nine over the seven innings, allowing just two runs on four hits.
Plimpton also got the start in game two for the Saints as well and pitched all five innings, racking up five more strikeouts for a grand total of 14 on the day, while allowing just six hits in her two starts.
Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) started game two for RIT and went 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and striking out two. Sophomore
Ashlynn Palmitesso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) made her RIT debut, taking the mound in relief of
Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) in the fifth inning.
Game one was scoreless until the fourth when St. Lawrence broke through off a single from Hannah Sears to center field which drove in the first run of the game. After an error and another single two batters later, the St. Lawrence lead had ballooned to 3-0.
The Tigers would respond in the bottom of the inning as Wolcott would crank a home run into the wind and over the left field fence with
Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) on base to cut the Saints lead to 3-2. The score would remain the same until the seventh inning where St. Lawrence would add an insurance run to eventually take the game 4-2.
St. Lawrence would crack the scoreboard first in game two as well, after a throwing error allowed Rebecca Allen to score from second. The Saints would add to their lead in the fourth when they scored two runs on a single by Stratton. Stratton would deliver the big blow in a five-run fifth inning, slamming a bases clearing double to center field that made it 8-0.
