Men's tennis drops nail-biter to Hobart on Tiger Den day

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT men's tennis team (2-10, 0-4 Liberty League) dropped a nail-biter to Liberty League foe Hobart (10-8, 1-2 Liberty League by a score of 5-4 on Thursday afternoon from the RIT Tennis Courts. It was the team's Tiger Den event, as several student-athletes came out to support the Tigers.

With the match tied at 4-4, it came down to the first singles match between RIT's Chandler Daub (Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe) and Hobart's Michael Fields. Both men battled hard, with Daub coming out on topp 6-3 in the opening set and Fields taking the second set, 7-5. In the third and decisive set, Fields would emerge victorious, winning 6-4.

Hobart would lead 2-1 after the three doubles matches. Frank McGinn III (Wappingers Falls, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) and Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) would garner the Tigers win at third doubles, handily defeating Jake Criss and Patrick Dunk of Hobart, 8-1.

Amos Baptiste (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) would earn a win at second singles for the Tigers, defeating Danny Kot in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. Andrew Reiley (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) upeneded Hobart's Ben Robinson at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-4, while Jared Raphael (Batavia, NY/Batavia) would defeat Hobart's Ryan Smith at the sixth singles position by consecutive 6-4 scores.

RIT concludes the regular season on Wednesday, April 23, with a home match against Nazareth. The Tigers will host the Liberty League Championship from May 2-4.
