ROCHESTER, NY– The RIT Softball team (1-13, 0-2 Liberty League) opened up the Liberty League portion of their schedule by getting swept by Skidmore (9-11, 3-1 Liberty League) in a doubleheader on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon from Tiger Stadium. Despite RIT having a multiple-run lead entering the seventh inning of both games, two rallies by the Thoroughbreds propelled them to two wins.

Freshman Alexa Farner (Gowanda, NY/Gownanda) had a great day for RIT going 5-for-8, driving in one run. Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) went 3-for-6 and had two RBI's of her own, while senior Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ) finished the day 3-for-8 with two RBI's as well.

Brittany Osborn highlighted Skidmore's offense going 4-for-7 with five RBI's on the afternoon. Lila Rosenfeld had three RBI's in game two.

Skidmore's Lauren Fortunato earned the win over RIT's Sierra Valentine (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) in game one. Game two was won by Cassie Fishkin for the Thoroughbreds, while Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) took the loss for the Tigers.

Tough pitching and solid defense from both squads kept game one scoreless through the first two innings. In the third, both teams would crack the scoreboard but it was Griffin's double to left center that scored two and gave RIT a 2-1 lead. In the fifth inning, RIT would add to their lead after an Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) double scored Wolcott. A few pitches later Cook would score on a wild pitch, giving RIT a 4-1 lead.

That score stood until the top of seventh inning when two errors proved costly for RIT. An error, walk, wild pitch and a fielder's choice resulted in no outs, giving Skidmore a bases loaded situation with no outs. After another botched fielder's choice, an error on a fly ball to right field, and a strikeout the bases were still loaded for Skidmore with just one out. Osborn came up and blasted a bases clearing double to center field to give the Thoroughbreds a 6-4 lead.

RIT would have a chance in the seventh, as Wolcott led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Cook. A double steal cut the Skidmore lead to 7-5. Amber Libby (Waterboro, ME/Massabesic) would drive in Cook to make it 7-6. Sam Killian (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) would walk, giving RIT runners at second and third with nobody out, but Fortunato would strike out the next three batters secure the win for Skidmore.

In game two the Thoroughbreds got on the board fast, putting two runs up in the first inning. In the fourth inning, RIT would score four runs of their own, two coming off the bat of Wolcott who ripped a double to right field to take the 4-2 lead. Once again the Tigers would lead heading into the seventh only to see Skidmore score six runs, the big hit coming off the bat of Rosenfeld, who slammed a three-run double down the left field line.

RIT will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday April 13, for a home doubleheader with the Liberty League's newest member Clarkson, starting at 1 p.m.
