ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT softball team (5-9, 0-2 Liberty League) opened Liberty League play by dropping a pair of games at rival Rochester (5-13, 2-0 Liberty League) by scores of 8-0 in five innings in game one, and 9-2.

RIT's defense stuggled all afternoon, making eight errors that led to 15 unearned runs.

In game one, Rochester took advantage of six RIT errors to cruise to the 8-0 win, scoring seven unearned runs. In addition, Rochester pitcher Brittany Grage threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out eight RIT batters. Grage's only blemish was hitting Kaylee Mathews (South Dayton, NY/Pine Valley) with a pitch in the top of the second inning.

Grage also helped her cause offensively, going 2-for-2 with a run scored, double, and three runs batted in. She had the bog hit in the second inning, ripping a single that was misplayed by a Tiger, allowing three runs to score and make it 5-0. Three Rochester runs were the direct results of RIT fielding errors.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored twice in the first inning, before RIT rallied to make it 2-1 in the top of the second. Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mathews, and moved to third as Anna Lorette (Norridgewock, ME/Skowhegan Area) reached on an error. Griffin then scored on a ground out by Alissa Dixon (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder).

Rochester poured it on with six unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning. Grage hit a two-run single, and Stephanie Brunet had a two-run double in the frame.

University of Rochester pitcher Madeline Skellie scattered seven hits and allowed two unearned runs to earn the win on the mound. Grage was 2-for-3 with four RBI's.

Dixon took the loss for RIT on the mound in game two, allowing just one earned run in six innings. She did allow seven hits andf walked seven batters. Griffin was 2-for-3 for RIT, while Matthews and Dixon drove in runs.

RIT is right back in action on Monday, with a non-league doubleheader at Alfred that gets underway at 3 p.m.
