BUFFALO, NY - The RIT softball team wrapped up its 2013 season by splitting a doubleheader at Buffalo State College (15-19) losing game one by a score of 7-0, then rebounding to win the finale, 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon. RIT finishes the 2013 season with a 13-21 record.
In game one, Buffalo State took advantage of two RIT errors and a passed ball to score five unearned runs. RIT out-hit Buffalo State 6-5, but were unable to push any runs across off of Bengals starter Maddie Coneys, who did not strike out a batter, but earned her ninth win of the season.
With Buffalo State leading 3-0 in the third inning, Kate Brownell landed the big a blow, a bases-clearing double that made it 6-0. Carly Knight was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
RIT's

RIT snapped a scoreless deadlock with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) and Wolcott hit back-to-back doubles with one out, giving RIT a 1-0 lead. After Wolcott stole third, McManus singled to right center, driving in the run, making the score 2-0 Tigers. McManus scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to make it 3-0.
Brittney LaVoie (Plattsburgh, NY/Ticonderoga), who hit a two-out single, scored on a double by
Brittany Purcell (Drums, PA/Hazelton Area) to put the Tigers up 4-0.
In the sixth, Griffin drew a bases loaded walk that scored
Anna Lorette (Norridgewock, ME/Skowhegan Area) with RIT's fifth run. Collmus got into some trouble in the final two innings, but got the defensive support to get out unscathed and earn the win.
