ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's tennis team (5-9) closed out the 2012-13 regular season by rolling to an 8-1 win over Nazareth (6-10) at the Gordon Field House on Wednesday evening.
RIT took all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches.
Mark Gonzalez (Jersey City, NJ/High Tech),
Will Abisalih (Merrimac, MA/Phillips Exeter Academy), and
Neville Bilimoria (Mumbai/Schiller International) won at both singles and doubles. Gonzalez paired with
Chandler Daub (Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe) to record an 8-4 win at first doubles. Gonzalez then recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tyler Williams at fourth singles.
Abisalih and Bilimoria rolled to an 8-0 win at third doubles. Bilimoria defeated Jeremy Mancus of Nazareth in three sets at second singles, while Abisalih upeneded Erik Manske at third singles, 7-5, 6-3.
The duo of
Clayton Tontarski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and
Kevin Layer (Clarence, NY/Clarence) recorded a 9-7 win at second doubles, while
Marc LaChance (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) also picked up singles wins. At fifth singles, LaChance defeated Scott Tolbert in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, while Chou defeated Nick Lord at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Nazareth's lone win came at first singles, as Ryan McCormick rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win.
The Tigers travel to Vassar College this weekend to compete at the 2013 Liberty League Tennis Championships. RIT, the six-seed, will face third-seeded Rensselaer in a first round contest on Saturday at 2 p.m.
