Softball plays rare tripleheader on Monday; Tigers win two of three games, defeat Hanover and Canton

CLERMONT, FL -
The RIT softball team (3-1) played three games on Monday at the National Training Center. RIT defeated SUNY Canton by a score of 8-0 in five innings, upended Hanover College, 2-1, then ended the day with a loss to St. Thomas of Miami, 3-0.

In the opener against Canton, RIT scored all eight runs in the first four innings en route to the victory. Offensively, Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ) set a single-game record by hitting two triples, while driving in four runs. Kelly Meegan (Bristol, NH/Newfound Regional ) and Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) scored two runs apiece and both drove in a run. Alissa Dixon (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

On the mound, Dixon was brilliant in recording her firxt collegiate win in her first start. The freshman hurler allowed just one hit, a single to Sharon Cordero and struck out 11 batters, while walking four.

RIT ripped 14 hits, but stranded 12 runners in the win over Hanover. Brittney LaVoie (Plattsburgh, NY/Ticonderoga) singled in Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) in the second inning. After Hanover tied the game in the fourth, Sarah Collmus (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) executed a squeeze bunt to score LaVoie, who had doubled and advanced to third on an error.

Dixon started, allowing hits and a run, while striking out six in 3 2/3 innings. Collmus came on in relief and allowed just one run over the final 3 1/3 innings to pick up her second win.

Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ) was 4-for-4 with a double, while #Saracj Wolcott@ was 2-for-2 with a double, and Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) also had two hits.

In the final game, St. Thomas scored twice in the top of the first inning and three pitchers combined on a four-hitter. Carson Catasus picked up the win, allowing hits in two innings of relief.

Nadow was 2-for-3 at the plate for RIT. On the mound, Collmus started and allowed an earned run in two innings, while Dixon came on in relief, allowing six hits over five scoreless innings of relief.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday against Johnson and Wales (Rhode Island) at 10 a.m. and Augustana College (Illinois) at 12 p.m.
