CLERMONT, FL -
The RIT softball team (1-0) opened its 2013 season with a 5-0 win over Hanover College (Indiana) at the National Training Center on Sunday morning. RIT's game against SUNY Canton that was scheduled for later on Sunday was postponed due to inclement weather. No makeup date has been scheduled as of yet.

RIT pitcher Sarah Collmus (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) was masterful on the mound for the Tigers, scattering just six hits, while not walking a batter, and striking out to record her first collegiate shutout. She did not allow a runner past second base and helped her own cause in the fourth inning, picking off Abby Murphy on second base to end a minor threat.

RIT took the lead immediately, as Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) led off the top of the first inning with a triple, then scored on a single by Kelly Meegan (Bristol, NH/Newfound Regional ). Meegan then scored on an  error to make it 2-0 Tigers. In the third inning, Wolcott walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on a single by Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ). Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ) tripled in the sixth inning and scored when Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) reached on an error. RIT wrapped up its scoring in the seventh, when Brittney LaVoie (Plattsburgh, NY/Ticonderoga) led off with a double, advanced to third on a single by Collmus, and then scored when Wolcott grounded into a fielder's choice.

Wolcott scored a pair of runs and drove in one run to lead the Tigers offensively. Six different Tigers recorded base hits.

RIT returns to action on Monday, with a pair of games. RIT will play SUNY Canton at 9 a.m. and Hanover at 11 a.m.
