Softball Drops Liberty League Openers against Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY --
The RIT Softball team (7-11, 0-2 Liberty League) dropped a pair of Liberty League contests against the University of Rochester (14-7, 2-0 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon at RIT Field.  The Tigers fell 9-2 in game one, and 13-2 in game two.

The Tigers got on the board first in game one, off of a solo-home run by Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ) in the bottom of  the second inning.

Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) singled to start the third, and advanced to third after a throwing error.  Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) followed that up with a single to center field, scoring McCormick and doubling RIT's lead.

The Tigers got in a jam in the top of the fourth, after three straight Yellowjackets singled to start the inning.  Brittany Grage then lined out to Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) at second, who doubled up Nina Korn.  A groundout by Natalee Sassaman ended the inning.

Rochester broke out in the fifth, scoring five runs on seven hits, and the sixth, scoring three times on four hits.

The Yellowjackets would add one more in the seventh, taking game one 9-2.

Rochester got out to a lead in game two, scoring once in the third.  The Yellowjackets would add to their lead in the fifth.  With two outs, Grage singled to left field, followed by back-to-back home runs by Gina Bradford Tume and Samantha Melvin.  Rochester brought its lead to 7-0 in the sixth inning.

The Tigers clawed back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice, as Kelly Meegan (Bristol, NH/Newfound Regional ) drove in both Brittany Purcell (Drums, PA/Hazelton Area) and McManus.

The Yellowjackets would score six more in the top of the seventh, winning 13-2.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday when they host SUNY Brockport for a pair of games starting at 3 p.m.
