SCHENECTADY, NY -- Junior shortstop Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) drove in a pair of runs, while sophomore third baseman Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ) had three hits and a run batted in for the RIT softball team (11-20, 3-4 Liberty League) in a 3-1 win over Union (17-12, 3-4 Liberty League) at Alexander Field on Saturday. Game two was halted due to rain in the top of the fourth inning with Union holding a 1-0 lead and is scheduled to be completed after both teams play their originally scheduled games on Sunday. RIT plays at Renselaaer on Sunday at 10 a.m., while Union hosts Rochester at 11 a.m.
In game one, RIT scored twice in the first and once in the second. Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) also had two hits for RIT, while Sarah Collmus (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) won for the fifth time this spring. She allowed eight hits and the one earned run while walking just one and striking out a batter. Nadow had a two out, two run triple in the first and Griffin also had a two out hit, an RBI double in the second.
Union had two hits each from Alyssa Wolejko and Amanda Blake, with the lone run coming on a solo homer over the left field fence by Kristin Schmidt in the third inning. Blake took the complete game loss, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. She settled down and allowed just two hits and a walk over the last five innings.
In game two, Union took a 1-0 lead in the third as Erika Hillenbrand tripled to lead off the inning and came home on a two out single by Samantha Chevalier. . With one out and Nadow on with a double in the fourth, the game was called and will resume later Sunday.
