ROCHESTER, NY –
Despite two home runs by catcher Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ), the RIT softball team (7-13) dropped a pair of games against The College at Brockport (17-7) on a cool, sunny, Wednesday afternoon at RIT Field. Brockport won game 8-4, then took game two, 9-5.

McManus hit a pair of solo homers, one in each game, giving her a team-best five on the season and is now slugging .768.

In game one, RIT took a 3-0 lead before Brockport responded with a run in the third inning and tallied five times in the fourth to take a commanding 6-3 lead.

RIT grabbed the lead on a run scoring double by Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) and a single by McManus. After a walk by Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton), Brockport tried a pick-off attempt, but McManus alertly stole third and then advanced home after Wolcott got into a rundown but safely slid back into first.

After Brockport scored a run in the third, Brianna Ferchen tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning, with a two-run double down the left field line. Caitlyn Rana drove in the go-ahead run with a single. Brockport added a pair of runs on two RIT errors.

McManus homered to make it 6-4 Brockport in the fifth. The Golden Eagles tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth.

Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ) was 2-for-4, while Nadow and McManus had two hits. Sarah Collmus (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) allowed just four hits and one run in five innings.

Brockport pitcher Leslie Dempsey came in relief to earn the win, allowing just four hits and one run, while striking out five batters in six innings.

In game two, the Golden Eagles scored six times in the top of the first inning to take a commanding lead, the big hit coming on a two-run double by Liz Hochman. McManus got RIT on the board with a solo shot to centerfield in the bottom of the second.

With the score 9-2 Brockport in the fifth, RIT roared back with three runs, two of which were driven in by Brittany Purcell (Drums, PA/Hazelton Area) on a two-run single.

McManus was 3-for-4 and Purcell went 2-for-4, each with a pair of runs batted in, while Griffin was 2-for-3.

Susanna Johnson, Hochman, and Ciara Condello had two hits each. Hochman drove in three runs, while Johnson scored twice. Erin Fleming earned the win on the mound.

The Tigers are right back in action on Thursday with a pair of road contests against Nazareth. The first pitch is at 3 p.m.
