Softball finishes Spring trip with a 5-5 record after a split on Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, FL -- The RIT softball team (5-5) split a pair of games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Friday morning. The Tigers opened the day with a 5-4 win over Rockford College and ended with a 9-1 loss to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the final contest.

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh against Rockford, the Tigers rallied with a pair of runs to win the game. Brittany Purcell (Drums, PA/Hazelton Area) and Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) opened the innings with consecutive singles. After a sacrifice to move both runners over, Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) laced a single that scored both runners to give RIT the win.

Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ) was 1-for-2 with a run batted in. On the mound, Sarah Collmus (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) picked up her first collegiate win, striking out four batters in the complete-game effort.

The Tigers return to action on March 29, as they travel to play Keuka in a doubleheader that gets underway at 3 p.m.
