ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's soccer team (8-5-0, 4-2-0 Liberty League) won its second straight game, rolling to a 4-0 win over Bard (4-10-1, 0-5-1 Liberty League) in a Liberty League matchup on a cool, sunny Friday afternoon at Tiger Stadium.
Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) scored a career-high two goals, while
Ehlana Gray (Sewickley, PA/Avonworth), and
Cassie Bursma (Sudbury, MA/Sudbury Regional ) each scored their first collegiate goal for the Tigers.
The Tigers dominated throughout, out-shooting Bard, 21-5, including 15-1 in the first half. Shots on goal were 14-0 RIT. RIT had nine corner kicks to zero from Bard.
In net,
Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) and
Alyssa Henkel (Newark, NY/Newark) split the shutout for the Tigers, each playing one half. Lena James made seven saves in the loss for the Raptors, while Amy Strawbridge made three saves in the second half.
Potter got RIT on the board in the 15th minute, as she took a perfect crossing feed from Gray to score her second goal of the season.
Quincey Ornellas (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) started the rush with a long lead pass to Gray on the right side. Gray immediately found Potter streaking towards the net and the senior forward made no mistake to find the back of the net.
In the 36th minute, Gray converted a rebound off a shot from
Elizabeth May (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) that was stopped by James. In the 44th minute, Bursma redirected a shot by
Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) with a perfect header just inside the left goal post from inside the box to make it 3-0.
Potter completed the scoring in the 69th minute, getting her second goal of the afternoon by firing in a loose ball off a scrum in front after a RIT corner kick.
Bard's best chance came midway through the first half, when Perry Scheetz rocketed a shot just over the net on a free kick from about 25 yards out.
RIT is now 2-0 all-time against the Raptors. Last season, RIT traveled to Bard and defeated the Raptors by a score of 2-1.
Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and
Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) scored RIT's goals.
The Tigers are right back in action on Saturday, as they host Liberty League foe Vassar at 2 p.m.
