Women's soccer closes out regular season with loss at Ithaca

ITHACA, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 non-conference loss at Ithaca (11-2-3) on Saturday morning. The Tigers close out the regular season with an 8-9-0 record. 

RIT held a 9-8 shot advantage over Ithaca. The Tigers took four corner kicks to three for the Bombers. Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) took the loss allowing three goals and making two saves. Becca Salant picked up the win for Ithaca allowing two goals and making four saves.

Ithaca took an early lead on an Amanda Callanan goal in the third minute. The Bombers made it 2-0 in the 19th minute on a goal by Julie Winn. Ithaca added a third goal in the first half on an Andi Roach goal in the 23rd minute.

The Tigers finally got on the board in the 65th minute. Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) tallied her fourth goal of the season with a shot into the bottom left corner off an assist from Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont).

Alexa Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) scored on a deflection in the 85th minute to pull the Tigers to within a goal at 3-2. It was her third tally of the season.

The Tigers ran out of time as Ithaca was able to run out the clock.

RIT, the third seed, will face No. 2 Skidmore in the Liberty League semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 4 pm in Saratoga Springs, New York. The winner will face the winner between William Smith and St. Lawrence in the championship game on Saturday, Oct. 5.
