MEADEVILLE, Pa. – Senior
Sidona Hackl-Gerenstein netted the game-winning goal to help the RIT women's soccer team defeat Allegheny, 2-1, at the Robertson Athletic Complex, Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Off a corner kick from sophomore Bella Coccio, senior Lindsay Ford used a header to put the ball into the upper left corner of the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead ten minutes into the game.
- Allegheny responded in the 19th minute when Casey Bender sent a curling shot from nearly 25 yards out to the top right corner of the goal.
- RIT generated several scoring opportunities throughout the second half, including a series of corner kicks and shots midway through the period.
- Hackl-Gerenstein scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 74th minute off a corner kick from junior Emma Watson, giving the Tigers a 2-1 advantage.
- The Gators recorded three shots on goal over the final 16 minutes, but senior goalkeeper Ashton Anderson made three second-half saves to preserve the win.
GAME NOTES
- Ford's goal is her first of the season as the second half goal is Hackl-Gerenstein's first of her career.
- Junior Amerie Mills recorded a career-high nine shots, putting two on frame.
- Anderson finished with three saves to earn the victory in goal.
- RIT outshot Allegheny, 29-to-7, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- RIT also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
- The win puts the Tigers' record at 1-0-1 through two games.
