Women's Soccer draws Geneseo in season opener, 0-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior goalkeeper Ashton Anderson made seven saves to help the RIT women's soccer team earn a scoreless draw against Geneseo in Tuesday's season opener at Judson Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The visiting Knights generated the first shot on goal in the fourth minute when Lauren DeMura forced Anderson to make a diving save.
• RIT's first scoring opportunity came in the 22nd minute as senior Emma Pedro sent a header wide left following a Geneseo yellow card.
• The Tigers applied pressure late in the first half, recording four shots during a stretch between the 42nd and 43rd minutes, including shots on goal from junior Alexa Marsh and sophomore Elle Wong that were stopped by Geneseo goalkeeper Emily McLouth.
• Junior forward Amerie Mills had a pair of second-half chances in the 47th and 48th minutes as RIT opened the period on the attack.
• Anderson recorded saves in the 55th and 59th minutes on shots by Ella Yartym and Kate Pinto to preserve the scoreless tie.
• Junior Emma Watson put a shot on target in the 70th minute, but McLouth made the save for Geneseo.
• RIT created opportunities late in the game with shots from Mills in the 81st and 84th minutes and a saved attempt by Pedro in the 87th minute.
• Anderson made her final save in the 89th minute on a shot by Samantha DeNisco as the Tigers secured the shutout draw.
 
GAME NOTES
• Anderson finished with seven saves in her first appearance for the Tigers.
• RIT outshot Geneseo, 17-11.
• The Tigers held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• Mills led RIT with four shots.
• Geneseo goalkeeper Emily McLouth made four saves.
• The scoreless result is the second straight between the two teams and the third tie in as many games in the series against Geneseo.
