Sarah Tawaf scored the game-winning goal and first-year midfielder
Elliot McSkimin added an insurance tally to help the RIT women's soccer team defeat Clarkson, 2-0, in the Tigers' Liberty League opener, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, Tawaf gave RIT a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute, finishing a feed from senior forward Emma Pedro.
- McSkimin doubled the Tiger advantage in the 69th minute, scoring on a rebounded shot following a goalkeeper deflection.
- Clarkson generated a pair of shots on goal in the 79th and 81st minutes, but senior goalkeeper Ashton Anderson made consecutive saves to preserve the shutout.
GAME NOTES
- Tawaf scored her first goal of the season while McSkimin recorded her first collegiate goal.
- Pedro notched her first assist of the season.
- Anderson finished the game with three saves to earn the clean sheet.
- RIT outshot the Golden Knights, 14-to-6, including a 7-to-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Tigers held a 4-to-1 edge in corner kicks.
