Women's softball garners split against Buffalo State

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT softball team (9-7, 1-1 Empire 8) earned a split against Buffalo State (10-8) through the raindrops at RIT Field on Wednesday afternoon.  Buffalo State won game one, 11-7, while RIT rebounded to win game two, 6-4.  Freshman Brittany Kemp (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) hit a home run in each game for RIT.

In game one, RIT ripped 11 hits, but Buffalo State was able to record 17 hits, nine of which went for extra bases, including three home runs. 

Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with a double and five runs batted in.  Kemp hit her first collegiate home run for RIT in the bottom of the seventh inning, a two-run shot.  Jen Hayden (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn), and #Emily McPherson each had two hits for the Tigers.

In game two, Kemp was the star on both sides for RIT, hitting a three-run homer in RIT's four-run fourth inning and earning the win on the mound.  Kemp was 2-for-4 with the home run and four runs batted in.  She also threw a complete-game five-hitter, striking out eight batters.

Arielle Link (Weston, CT/Weston) and Megan O'Connell were each 1-for-3 with a run scored and driven in.

Kaylee Lekki hit her third homer of the day for the Bengals in game two.

The Tigers get back into Empire 8 play on Saturday, as they travel to Utica to play the Pioneers in a doubleheader, starting at 12 p.m.
