ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT softball team (14-12) dropped a pair of games to SUNY Brockport (22-6) on a dry, breezy Tuesday afternoon at RIT Field. Brockport won game one, 7-2, while the Golden Eagles rallied to win game two, 7-5.
Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) drove in five runs on the afternoon for RIT.
Nadow now has 31 RBI in just 26 games this season. Her 31 RBI are already the sixth most in one season by a Tiger. Nadow has 29 RBI over her last 19 games, including eight contests with at least a pair of RBI.
In game one, Brockport scored five runs in the top of the first inning, all unearned, aided by three RIT errors. Danielle Sage landed the big blow, ripping a double off the fence in left center field, driving in a pair of runs.
Nadow drove both of RIT's runs with a single in the sixth inning, scoring Megan O'Connell and
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey). Nadow was 2-for-3 with a double and a single. O'Connell was also 2-for-3. McPherson was 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored.
Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) had a hit and stolen base.
Brockport out-hit RIT, 9-6. Cole took the loss for RIT, but allowed zero earned runs in the complete-game effort. She struck out five batters and walked none.
Stephanie Geer earned her 10th win of the year for Brockport, allowing six hits and two earned runs, while striking out five batters.
In game two, Brockport scored three times in the second inning, but RIT responded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-3 lead. Nadow cleared the bases for RIT with a three-run double to the gap in right centerfield to give RIT the lead.
Brittany Kemp (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) gave RIT a 5-3 lead, hitting the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth inning over the left centerfield fence for a home run. It was Kemp's third home run of the season, which leads the squad.
The Golden Eagles rallied with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Down 5-4, Emily Wagner ripped a double down the right field line to score a pair of runs. Wagner then scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.
McPherson was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI for RIT. Becca Pringle and Hallie Ary each had two hits for the Golden Eagles.
Kemp took the loss on the mound for RIT. Kelly Briscoe earned the win, her eighth of the season for Brockport.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, as they host Elmira in a crucial Empire 8 doubleheader that gets underway at 3 p.m.
