ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT softball team (14-10) earned a doubleheader split at Medaille College (14-10) on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers dropped game one, 6-2, but rebounded to take game two, 7-5. Freshman outfielder Megan O'Connell was 5-for-7 in the two games.
In game one, RIT led 1-0 before Medaille exploded for six runs on six hits, all singles, in the bottom of the fourth inning.
RIT hurler
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) took the loss, despite allowing just one other hit before and after the fourth inning. She fell to 7-6. O'Connell was 2-for-4 with a run batted in, while
Katie Fitzpatrick (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) drove in RIT's other run. Cole was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.
In game two, O'Connell went 3-for-4 with a run scored, run batted in, and a stolen base.
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Cole scored twice.
RIT jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings. The Tigers scored five times in the second inning.
Freshman hurler
Brittany Kemp (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) earned her seventh win of the season, allowing six hits and two earned runs. She struck out nine batters.
RIT is back in action on Saturday, as they host Elmira in a pair of Empire 8 contests that get underway at 1 p.m.
