UTICA, NY - The RIT softball team (11-7, 3-1 Empire 8) extended its winning streak to three games after a pair of wins at Utica on Saturday afternoon. RIT won game one, 6-4, and rolled to an 8-0 win in five innings in game two. RIT hit three home runs.
In game one, Tigers scored three times in the top of the fourth inning to erase a 4-3 deficit and take a 6-4 lead.
Michelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) drove in
Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) with a single to tie the game at 4.
Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) gave RIT the lead with a two-run double, scoring
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) and Tabisz.
Tabisz hit her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot in the top of the second inning. She was 2-for-4 with four RBI. McPherson was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) also recorded two hits.
Cole recorded her sixth win of the season, allowing nine hits and four runs over seven innings. She struck out four and walked none.
In game two, RIT scored six times in the third and twice in the fourth to pull out the win.
Nadow hit a three-run homer, her first collegiate round tripper, while Cole slammed a two-run shot in the third inning. Nadow finished 2-for-3 with five RBI. Tabisz was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in.
Jen Hayden (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) also recorded two hits.
Nadow now leads the team with 21 RBI and seven RBI in 18 games this season.
Brittany Kemp (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) was tremendous on the mound for the Tigers, striking out a season-high 11 hitters, while allowing just one hit over five innings to earn her fifth win of the year.
RIT resumes play on Sunday in Ithaca for a pair of tough conference contests against the Bombers. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
