OSWEGO, N.Y. – RIT first-year
Taryn Jones combined to go 5-for-6 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored and five RBI as the Tigers split a doubleheader at Oswego, Wednesday. RIT earned a 10-1 (6 inn.) victory in game-two to bounce back from a 11-3 (5 inn.) setback in the opener.
RIT 10, OSWEGO 1 (6 INN.)
- Jones went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and scored twice while first-years Madison Passineau and Paige Stein each knocked in two runs apiece to pace the offense.
- RIT jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first. Sophomore Anna Cavotta led off with a single to centerfield and stole two bases before coming home on a double by sophomore Carlianna Ewing. Sophomore Kate Carlone followed with an RBI double before Jones reached on an infield single. Passineau plated Jones and Carlone with a double to centerfield before advancing to third on a dropped ball-four to sophomore Sylvia White. Stein plated Passineau and White with a single to centerfield to complete the six-run start.
- RIT made it a 7-0 lead on a bases-loaded single by White in the second before taking a decisive 10-0 on a three-run home run by Jones with two outs in the third.
- Senior Jessica Majot earned the complete game win, only allowing two hits and three walks while striking out five.
OSWEGO 11, RIT 3 (5 INN.)
- Jones went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBI, while Passineau was 2-for-3 with a double in the opener.
- Cavotta led off the first with a walk and, after stealing second and third, came home on a RBI single by Jones.
- Oswego bounced back with four runs on three hits and two walks in the bottom of the first.
- Passineau led off the second with a double to the rightfield gap and eventually came home on a RBI single by Cavotta.
- Oswego responded with a run in the bottom of the second for a 5-2 lead and later scored three unearned runs in the fourth for an 8-3 lead.
- The Lakers put together a three-run fifth inning to complete the mercy rule victory.

RIT returns home to host Liberty League-rival Ithaca on Saturday (Apr. 25) for a doubleheader scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
