ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT softball team (7-5) dropped a pair of games to the University of Rochester (12-7), 3-0 and 6-4 on a sunny and warm Thursday afternoon at RIT Field. It was the regular season home opener for the Tigers.
In game one, the Tigers could not solve Rochester starting pitcher Sara Hutchinson. Hutchinson was masterful, allowing just five hits while striking out in the complete game win.
Juliana Nicholson was 2-for with a RBI double for the Yellowjackets. Rochester scored twice in the fourth and once in the seventh inning.
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) pitched well, but took the loss allowing nine hits and three runs in a complete game.
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) was 2-for-3.
In game two, Kim Grimes and Erin Clark homered for the Yellowjackets. Madeline Skellie picked up the win on the mound, while Hutchinson came on in relief to get the final out and record the save.
#Tori Nadow was 2-for-3 with a run batted in for RIT.
Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) scored a pair of runs. McPherson,
Michelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), and
Arielle Link (Weston, CT/Weston) drove in runs for the Tigers, who out-hit Rochester, 8-7.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they open Empire 8 play by hosting St. John Fisher in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
