Men's basketball beats Utica in convincing fashion

Tigers improve to 7-1 over last eight games with win over Pioneers

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team soundly defeated Utica College (7-15, 2-11 Empire 8) 89-69 in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) led RIT with 27 points. The win improves RIT to 11-11 overall and 7-6 in the Empire 8.

Terry is averaging 21.0 points per game over the last six games and is shooting 58 percent from the floor in that stretch. Today was Terry's thirteenth game of the season scoring in double figures.

RIT had control of the game from the opening whistle, leading 50-34 at the half. RIT shot 53.6 percent from the floor for the game on 37-of-69 shooting. RIT hit 11-of-23 from three point land, led by Terry who had six made 3-pointers. The Tigers out-rebounded the Pioneers 31-27 led by Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) who had seven rebounds.

Korinchak finished with 11 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal, while shooting 5-for-5 from the field. Sophomore center Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) added 14 points and four rebounds.

Robert Whyte led Utica with 17 points and nine rebounds.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, February 16 in the regular season home finale versus Alfred University. Tip-off at Clark Gym is at 8 pm.
