Women's soccer loses 1-0 to #9 Ithaca

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team was beaten by #9 Ithaca College (10-2-0, 6-0-0) 1-0 in Empire 8 action from RIT Field on Saturday. The loss drops the Tigers to 7-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Empire 8.

The lone goal of the match came in the 52nd minute when Rachael Palladino gathered a loose ball in front of the RIT goal and fired a shot to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead.

Ithaca out shot the Tigers 16-5 and took 11 corner kicks to none for RIT. Jessica Platt picked up the win for Ithaca making three saves. Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) took the loss for RIT allowing one goal and making six saves.

RIT generated a couple good scoring chances. The first came when freshman Jamie Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) fired hard shot from the top of the Ithaca penalty area that looked to be headed for the left corner. Platt made a diving save for the Bombers to keep the game scoreless.

With two minutes remaining in regulation sophomore Jackie Jacobson (Westlake, CA/Westlake) led Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) into the box with a nice pass. Vakiener dribbled to her left to open up a shooting and fired a shot that just missed the cross-bar.

That was the last good chance for the TIgers who will face Nazareth College next Wednesday, October 20 at 4 pm in Pittsford, New York.
