BUFFALO, NY -- The RIT softball team (5-13) dropped a pair of non-conference games to Buffalo State College (12-6) on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers lost game one 7-2 and were defeated by the Bengals 6-3 in game two. RIT has now lost four straight contests.
Sophomore
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY/Alden) supplied the offense in both games for RIT, hitting a two-run home run in each contest.
In game one, Buffalo State broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and five in the sixth inning. Julie Joyce hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to put the Bengals up 7-0. Joyce finished with three hits and five RBI in the game.
Cole hit a two-run shot in the top of the seventh to spoil the shut-out for the Bengals.
Aimee Fisher earned the win on the mound for Buffalo State, allowing four hits and two runs in the complete-game win. Cole took the loss for RIT, allowing a season-high nine hits and seven runs, six earned. She walked three batters and struck out four. Coming into today, Cole had walked just five batters in 69 innings.
RIT jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two.
Lisa Fronczak (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) hit a sharp single that drove in
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey). Cole followed with her second two-run home run of the afternoon.
The Bengals rallied, scoring one run in the first and four more in the third to take a 5-3 lead.
Sarah Hamel (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) took the loss for RIT, allowing five runs, three of them earned in three innings. The Tigers made four errors.
Jen Hayden (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) was 2-for-4 in game two for the Tigers.
The Tigers are right back in action on Friday, as they travel to Empire 8 rival Elmira to play the Soaring Eagles in a pair of Empire 8 contests beginning at 3 p.m.
