Tigers lose to close games to Bombers

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT softball team dropped a pair of Empire 8 games to Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers lost game one 7-6 and were defeated by the Bombers 3-1 in game. The losses drop RIT to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in the Empire 8.

RIT took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one. Allee Emmi (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) drew a one-out walk and Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) (Pompey, NY) ripped an Alyssa Brook pitch over the right-center field fence, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

The scored would remain the same until the top of the sixth inning when Ithaca scored six runs. Brittany Lillie led off with a home run off of RIT starter, Carliss Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY). Annmarie Forenza hit a three-run home run, giving Ithaca a 4-2 lead. The Bombers tacked on two unearned runs to take a 6-2 lead.

RIT would come right back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game on a three-run home run by #Jessica French (Springwater, NY/Wayland-Cohocton Central)# (Springwater, NY/Wayland-Cohocton). It was her first collegiate home run and fifth, sixth and seventh RBI of the season.

The Bombers scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh when Katherine Wison scored on a RBI single by Annmarie Forenza.

RIT went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

McPherson led RIT going 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. French went 1-3 with a home run and three RBI.

Cole took the loss, going all seven innings allowing three earned runs on 12 hits. She struck out one and did not walk a batter.  Cole has walked just five batters in 69 innings this season.

Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Ithaca scored on a throwing error by McPherson.

The Tigers tied the score at one on a RBI double by Michelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch). She double home Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) (Auburn, NY) who had come in to run for Jen Hayden (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) who got the rally started with a single.

The Bombers took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI's by Danielle Fazzolare and Courthney Noster.

Sarah Hamel (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) pitched well but took the loss for RIT. She went six innings allowing two earned runs on six hits while not walking a batter.  She has walked just two batters all season.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Buffalo State College to play the Bengals in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
