ELMIRA, NY – The RIT softball team (6-14, 2-4 Empire 8) snapped a four-game losing streak by splitting a doubleheader with Empire 8 rival Elmira (7-5, 1-5 Empire 8) winning 5-4 in game one before dropping game two by a score of 9-5.
In game one, RIT jumped in front early scoring two runs in the first on a double by
Lisa Fronczak (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South). The Tigers would add three more runs in the third with the big hit coming on a two-run single by
Allie Emmi (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse). RIT led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the third innng.
Fronczak was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.
Jen Hayden (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) scored a pair of runs.
Cole picked up her fifth win of the season on the mound in game one for RIT, allowing six hits and four runs in the complete-game seven-hitter. She walked one and struck out four batters.
Stephany Fontinell launched a two-run homerun for Elmira.
In game two, Elmira scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 3-3 tie and pull away for the 9-5 win. Casandra Fontinell and Erin Preuss hit solo homers to for Elmira.
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) (Pompey, NY/Fabius Pompey) was 1-for-4 with three RBI, while
Jenna Mausolf (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (Hudson, NY/Hudson) was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a run batted in.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, as they host D'Youville in a doubleheader at RIT Field. The twin-bill gets underway at 3 p.m.
