PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT softball team split a pair of Empire 8 softball contests on Saturday afternoon at St. John Fisher. In its first Empire 8 Conference action of the season, the Tigers lost game one 3-0, but RIT took the second matchup 8-0. With the split, RIT is now 5-9 on the season overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8.
In the first contest, RIT mustered just four hits in a 3-0 loss.
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY) had two of the four hits for the Tigers. #
Lisa Fronczak (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South)# (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) and
Katie Fitzpatrick (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) had the other two hits.
Cole took the loss for RIT despite a strong pitching performance. She went six innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits. She fanned one and walked none.
Amanda Shevchuk led Fisher with a complete game four-hitter while fanning three batters to improve to 5-2 on the year.
RIT got a run in the first inning of the second game, and held the Cardinals scorless before breaking the game open with six runs in the fourth inning.
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) (Pompey, NY) led RIT going 3-4 in game two with three RBI.
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) went 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Jenna Mausolf (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (Hudson, NY) scored three runs.
Jen Hayden (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) and
Allee Emmi (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) each had two hits.
Sarah Hamel (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) picked up the win in game two throwing a complete-game, three hit shut out. She walked just one batter, fearning her first collegiate win.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 4 when they host Utica College. The doubleheader gets under way at 1 pm.
