Softball Earns Split at #19 Rochester

Carlissa Cole twirled a six-hit shutout in game one for RIT on Friday

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT softball team (4-8) earned a doubleheader split at #19 Rochester on Friday afternoon.  RIT won game one, 1-0 and fell to the Yellowjackets (11-6) in game two by a score of 3-0.

Sophomore hurler Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY/Alden) was tremendous in the oprner, allowing just six hits to pick up her fourth win of the year and second shutout.  She out-dueled Rochester standout pitcher Beth Ameno.  Cole pitched out of two-on jams in both the fourth and seventh innings.

RIT scored its lone run when Lisa Fronczak (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) reached base and scored on a clutch single by freshman Michelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch).

In game two, Rochester broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth.  Cole was 2-for-3 for RIT.  Sarah Hamel (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) (Templeton, MA/Narraganset Regional) threw a complete game for RIT, allowing three runs in six innings.

RIT is right back in action on Saturday, as they travel to play Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 opener for both teams.  The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
