ROCHESTER, NY – After having an 11-game winning streak snapped on Friday, the RIT men's hockey team rebounded with a 5-3 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The win improves RIT to 17-10-1 overall and 16-5-1 in the AHA.
Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, Ontario/Nepean Raiders) (Nepean, ON) led a balanced scoring attack with a goal and two assists.
Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Blades) (Oakville, ON) and
Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/Merritt Centennials) (Burnaby, BC) each had a pair of assists and #
Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings)# (Linwood, ON) had a goal and an assist.
The Tigers outshot the Pioneers 37-30 and went 4-for-11 on the power play. RIT held Sacred Heart to one goal in 11 power play chances.
Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, Quebec/Ottawa Senators) (Chicoutimi, PQ) picked up his fifth straight win making 27 saves and allowing three goals. He is now 7-5-1 on the season.
RIT took a 1-0 lead at 4:13 of the first period on
Cameron Burt's (Detroit, MI) eighth goal of the season. He and
Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, Ontario/Nepean Raiders) worked the give-and-go to perfection and Burt fired a low wrist shot that beat Stefan Drew to the far side.
Drew kept the score at 1-0 with several big saves. He robbed
Anton Kharin (Twin Lake, Mich./Bay State Breakers) (Twin Lake, MI) midway through the period when he and
Jesse Newman (Kelowna, British Columbia/Trail Smokeeaters) (Kelowna, BC) broke in off a Sacred Heart turnover. Kharin looked to have the corner picked but Drew stuck his pad out and made the save.
Sacred Heart fired nine shots in the first period but
Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, Quebec/Ottawa Senators) turned them all aside. Their best chance came at 6:02 when Ryan Miniaci ripped a slap shot from the point that beat Menard through the legs, but the shot hit off the post and Menard bounced on the round.
Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/Aurora Tigers) (King City, ON) made it 2-0 RIT at 2:01 of the second. He circled around the net off a shot from
Brent Alexin (West Seneca, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) (West Seneca, NY) and fired a wrist shot that beat Drew over his glove-hand shoulder.
Anton Kharin (Twin Lake, Mich./Bay State Breakers) tallied his fifth goal of the season, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead. He was parked on the side of the net and back-handed the loose puck home with RIT on the power play.
Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) and
Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/Merritt Centennials) had the assists on the play.
Matt Gingera cut RIT's lead to 3-1 with a power play goal at 8:47. He was left unmarked and Dave Jarman found him with a cross-crease pass that Gingera one-timed home.
RIT killed off 1:44 of a Sacred Heart 5-on-3 power play. The Tigers never really let the Pioneers get settled during the 1:44.
The Tigers made it 4-1 with a power play goal when
Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) poked home a shot home with one second remaining on the clock.

Cameron Burt (Detroit, Mich./Green Bay Gamblers) had the assists on the play.
Sacred Heart's Bear Trapp cut RIT's lead to4-2 with an even strength goal at 4:37 of the third period. He broke in on a long break out pass and roofed a shot over Menard's shoulder with a RIT defender draped all over him.
Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, Ontario/Nepean Raiders) put the game out of reach at 11:26 of the third with RIT's fourth power play goal of the game.
Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Blades) ripped a slap shot from the point the
Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) deflected. The rebound came back to Sarazon, who was parked at the side of the net, who poked it home for his second goal of the game.
Eric Giosa added a late goal for Sacred Heart, making it 5-3.
RIT returns to action next Friday. The Tigers will face Holy Cross Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in Worcester, Massachusetts.
RIT moves temporarily back into first place in the AHA standings. The Tigers lead frog over Air Force, who plays Connecticut later on Saturday, with 33 points on the season.
