ROCHESTER, NY - The red-hot RIT men's hockey team travels down Interstate-90 to face the Mercyhurst Lakers on Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7:05 p.m. in a pair of high-flying Atlantic Hockey contests.
RIT (4-5-0, 4-2-0 AHA) is looking to extend its winning streak to five games, and reach the .500 mark, after sweeping Army by scores of 6-1 and 2-1 last weekend at Ritter Arena. On Friday,
Scott Knowles (Riverside, Ontario/),
Cameron Burt (Detroit, MI/), and
Sean Murphy (Owatonna, MN/) tallied three points apiece in the win. The following evening,
Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/) scored with 2:49 left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie. Goaltender
Jared DeMichiel (Avon, CT/) was tremendous in net, stopping 23 shots.
Senior defenseman
Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario/) scored a goal in both games last weekend. He has five goals in his last three games after scoring 10 in his first 110 contests. He needs just one point to become the second RIT player to record 100 career points at the Division I level.
DeMichiel was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week. He has allowed just four goals in his last four games, lowering his goals against average to 2.49 on the season.
Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/) leads the Tigers in scoring with 12 points (3-9-12) in nine games. Favot, Burt, and Ringwald are all riding seven-game point scoring streaks.
Mercyhurst (2-7-1, 2-3-1 AHA) comes into this weekend's contests looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Last weekend, the Lakers dropped a pair of games to Canisius, 6-4 at home on Friday, and 4-3 Saturday on the road. Steve Cameron and Brandon Coccimiglio lead the team with 10 points apiece. Cameron has seven goals to lead the squad, while Scott Pitt leads the team with seven assists. Ryan Zapolski has seen most of the time in net this season for Mercyhurst. He has a 2-6-1 mark with a 3.73 goals against average and .883 save percentage in five contests.
Mercyhurst ended RIT's 2008-09 season, with a 5-4 overtime victory in the AHA semifinals. RIT is 23-13-4 all-time against the Lakers. RIT went 2-1-0 against Mercyhurst last season, with all three games being played in Rochester. RIT won 6-2 and 5-3 at Ritter Arena on Dec. 12-13, 2008. The Tigers are 7-4-1 against Mercyhurst since moving to Division I in 2005.
