ROCHESTER, NY --
The RIT men's basketball team led 33-21 at the half and never looked back as the Tigers defeated Utica College 74-59 in Empire 8 action on Friday night. The win improves RIT to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8. The 3-0 start in league play is the first time since the 2003-04 season the Tigers have started 3-0 in the Empire 8.

Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY) turned in another dominating performance scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. He scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half.

The Tigers led 9-2 after the first five minutes of action and 22-7 after 10 minutes and despite a late run by the Pioneers led 33-21 at the half.

Adam Sweet (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY) led RIT with 11 first-half points off the bench. The junior co-captain was 3-of-4 from three-point land and 2-for-2 from the foul line.

The Pioneers opened the second half scoring the first two buckets, cutting RIT's lead to eight points on a layup by Patrick Goodman.

RIT shot 46.4% from the floor in the second half on 13-of-28 shooting. The Tigers made five three pointers and went 18-of-29 from the foul line.
