MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The RIT Tigers took home a pair of wins Thursday afternoon after defeating Villa Julie and Philadelphia Biblical. RIT moves to .500, with a 3-3 overall record.
The Tigers were backed by a strong offensive effort, plating seven runs on 15 hits. RIT had six batters with multiple-hit games, including freshman
Dave Kernan (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), who homered in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 6-6.
RIT was able to shut the Mustangs down in the top of the ninth thanks to an outstanding pitching performance from freshman
Mike Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain), who went the distance for the Tigers, pitching nine innings and striking out five.
The Tigers then went into the bottom of the ninth knotted at 6-6.
Anthony Culotta (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) led off with a walk, and was followed by consecutive singles from
Geoff Dornes (Landisville, PA/Hempfiled) (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) and
Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley). With the bases loaded,
Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) singled up the middle, scoring Culotta and giving the Tigers the win.
RIT then took on Philadelphia Biblical University in the second nine-inning contest, and jumped to an early lead, plating six in the first and three in the second. The Crimson Eagles had trouble defensively, giving twelve free passes, and the Tigers capitalized, scoring 12 runs by the seventh inning, forcing the 10-run rule.
Sophomore
Jeff Bibbens (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) pitched seven innings of hard-nosed baseball, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out eight. The Tigers also saw solid contributions from the bench, including a RBI double from
Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) (Brockport, NY/Brockport). Freshman
Steve Cline (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) recorded his first collegiate hit with a double in the top of the seventh, and later scored on a sacrifice fly from
Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers), making the score 12-1.
The Tigers finish their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, SC as they take on Philadelphia Biblical Friday morning at 9 a.m. at Griffith Field.
