Tigers Allow Three Power Play Goals

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (3-6-1, 2-2-1 AHA) men's hockey team allowed three-power play goals as the Tigers fell to Army (3-4-1, 3-3-1 AHA) 5-3 in Atlantic Hockey Association action at Ritter Arena on Friday night. The Tigers, conversely, went 1-for-9 with the man advantage including two 5-on-3 chances.

"We didn't capitalize on our opportunites. They did," said RIT Head Coach Wayne Wilson. "We have to compete much harder night in and night out."

RIT took a 1-0 lead late in the first period on Matt Crowell's (Kelowna, BC) first goal of the season. Bobby Raymond (Lucknow, Ontario/Owen Sound) (Lucknow, ON) fed Crowell at the right face-off dot and he fired a wrist-shot that beat Army's Josh Kassel on the glove side to give the Tigers the lead.

RIT had a 13-7 advantage in shots in the first period as they controlled the bulk of the play in their own end.

The Black Knights took advantage of RIT penalties and tied the score on a pair of power play goals early in the second period.

Marcel Alvarez tied the score at 1-1 with a slap shot from the point. He took a pass from Scott Warner and blasted a shot that Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, Quebec/Ottawa Senators) never saw, for his first tally of the season.

Less than a minute later Danny Colvin gave the black Knights their first lead of the game with another power play goal. Bryant Skarda took the shot that Menard saved but he couldn't control the rebound which came to Colvin and he tipped it into the open net for a 2-1 Army lead.

The Tigers responded with a power play goal at 10:29 of the second to tie the game at 2-2. Sean Murphy (Owatonna, Minn./Green Bay Gamblers) (Owatonna, MN) zipped a pass to Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/Merritt Centennials) (Burnaby, BC) at the point and he ripped a slap shot that beat Kessel top-shelf for his second goal of the season.

Army took the lead back 35 seconds into the third period with their third power play goal of the evening. Cody Omilusik tapped home a one-timer from close range.

Cameron Burt (Detroit, Mich./Green Bay Gamblers) (Detroit, MI) tied the game at 4:06 of the third on a one-timer on a pass from Trevor Eckenswiller (Lions Head, Ontario/Oakville Blades). Burt wound up and fired a shot from the face-off dot for his third goal of the season.

Army took the lead for good at the 5:16 of the third period. Mark Dube intercepted a breakout pass by the Tigers and fired a shot over Menard's shoulder giving the Black Knights a 4-3 lead.

Joey Ammon added an empty-net goal with 14 seconds remaining to salt the game away.

RIT out-shot the Black Knights 36-26. Josh Kassel picked u the win for Army, making 33 saves. #Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, Quebec/Ottawa Senators)# (Chicoutimi, PQ) took the loss, making 21 saves.
