Women's Soccer Falls to #7 William Smith

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team was shut out by #7 William Smith College 3-0 on a sunny afternoon at RIT Field. The loss drops RIT to 5-5-2 overall while the Herons improve to 8-1-1 on the season.

The Herons took an early lead on a goal by Brelynn Nasypany in the fifth minute. Kate Redmond led Nasypany with a pass that she ran onto. She juked her way around an RIT defender and fired a shot from inside the six-yard box past Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), giving the Herons a 1-0 lead.

Chelsea England made it 2-0 William Smith on an assist from Nasypany. Nasypany capitalized on  turnover by RIT deep in their own end and fed England who beat Valenti from close-range.

The Herons made it 3-0 in the 39th minute on an unassisted goal by Sarah Tarantino. She gathered in a bobble from the RIT defense and drove in and scored, making it 3-0 William Smith.

The Herons out-shot the Tigers 12-6 on the afternoon and took six corner kicks to RIT's one.

Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Tigers. She made six saves, allowing three goals.

Alex Chase played the first 78:30 of the game, making two saves and getting the win for William Smith. Libby Green played the final 11:30 and did not make a save.

RIT will return to action on October 14 when they travel to SUNY Oswego at 4 pm. The Tigers resume Empire 8 play on October 18 when they travel to Stevens Tech.
