UTICA, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie versus Utica College on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers are now 5-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Empire 8. The Tigers are now in third in the Empire 8 standings and are just two points out of first.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on an goal by Danielle Smith. The Tigers out-shot the Pioneers 7-4 in the first half but Utica keeper Smantha Lawrie was sharp, keeping the Tigers off the board.
The Tigers were headed for defeat when
Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) struck for her fourth goal of the season.
Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY) sent in a free kick that Traversi ran onto and headed home, tying the game at 1-1 in the 85th minute.
The Tigers had several scoring chances in the overtime sessions, firing four shots but Lawrie stood strong and kept the game tied.
Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) got the start in net for RIT, playing all 110 minutes. She allowed just one goal and made seven saves.
The Tigers will host William Smith on Tuesday, October 7 at 4 pm on RIT Field.
