ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team is one win away from capturing the Liberty League Tournament title after defeating Hobart, 10-1, Saturday.
The top-seeded Tigers are 2-0 while Hobart is 2-1 in the four-team double-elimination tournament as the two teams will play for the championship tomorrow at noon. If the #3-seeded Statesmen win, the teams will play a second game to determine the tournament champion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two scoreless innings, senior Jarin Moses drove in senior Trent Rapp with a double to left center in the bottom of the third innings to put RIT on the board.
- In the top of the fourth, Hobart's Sean Garvin scored on a wild pitch to even the game at 1-1.
- Graduate student Sam Kulp hit a home run over the left field fence to make it a 2-1 lead for the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth.
- RIT blew the game open in the sixth by scoring eight runs, which included a three-run double from senior Jackson Rusiecki.
- After first-year Sly Cash worked the first 3.2 innings on the mound, graduate student Ryan Merkov went 5.1 innings to get the win for the Tigers. The duo combined for five strikeouts while allowing just one run on four hits.
GAME NOTES
- Kulp's home run is his second of the season and sixth of his career. On the day, Kulp went 2-of-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs.
- Moses finished the game 4-of-5 with two RBIs and one run.
- Merkov earned his first win of the season and fifth of his career.

RIT and Hobart will play in Game 6 of the tournament at tomorrow at noon.
