Five Tigers land Liberty League weekly honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Five student-athletes from RIT were honored with Liberty League weekly accolades announced by the conference, Monday (May 4).
 
Graduate student Dylan Joseph was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Senior Alex Zborowski was named the Men's Lacrosse Defensive Performer of the Week; sophomore Ryan Sanders was the Offensive Performer of the Week and first year Philip Minardo was the Rookie of the Week. On the women's side, first year Taryn Jones was named the Softball Rookie of the Week.
 
Joseph improved to 6-0 on the mound in RIT's Crossover Series clincher against Vassar, 5-3, on Saturday. The graduate student came out of the bullpen to work a career-high 8.2 innings, allowing just five hits, one walk, and no runs while striking out nine batters. Through 41.0 innings this season, Joseph holds a 1.54 ERA with 38 strikeouts.
 
Zborowski recorded a 2-0 record, a 7.42 goals-against average and a .581 save percentage to lead RIT to its 13th Liberty League title. He made nine saves, including four in the fourth quarter in the Tigers 11-9 come-from-behind win at St. Lawrence in Friday's semifinal. Zborowski made nine saves in 45 minutes of action in RIT's 17-7 win over Union in Sunday's championship game.
 
Sanders was named the Liberty League Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after recording 11 points on nine goals and two assists to lead RIT to its 13th Liberty League crown. He scored four goals including the game-tying goal with 54 seconds to play in regulation in the Tiger's 11-9 come-from-behind win at St. Lawrence in Friday's semifinal. Sanders scored a season-high five goals and added two assists in Sunday's 17-7 win over Union in the championship game.            
 
Minardo won 17-of-28 faceoffs (60.7%), grabbed nine ground balls and scored a goal to help RIT win its 13th Liberty League title. He won 10-of-16 draws, grabbed seven ground balls and scored the go-ahead goal with 48 seconds remaining in regulation in the Tigers 11-9 come-from-behind win at St. Lawrence in Friday's semifinal. Minardo won 7-of-12 draws and has two ground balls in RIT's 17-7 win over Union in the Liberty League Championship, Sunday.
 
Jones finished a combined 3-for-6 with three home runs and five RBI in the Tigers' Liberty League split with Union, Saturday. She went 2-for-3 with two round-trippers in RIT's 8-0 (5 inn.) game-two victory, tying RIT's single-season program record with her eighth home run.
